I've been a devotee of St. Raphael the Archangel for two years now. Since my illness is related to stomach and digestive problems, I discovered that my anxiety or nervousness is making the condition worse. One of the things I learned about people who are frequently worried or nervous is the inability to breathe properly and deeply. Hence, the ulcers, heartburn and hyperacidity. The stomach is tense most of the time and the diaphragm is hardly given the chance to expand and be filled with air.
St. Raphael the Archangel has been known to be the angel associated with air. There are a lot of Catholic and Christian articles saying that we can call on him to help and heal us with a prayer meditation. Although I copy-pasted and printed a lot of prayers to him, this particular novena is the prayer that is close to my heart. Whenever I feel sick or stressed out, or even when I have inflammations or aches, I say this powerful novena for nine straight days. Of course, it's best to call on him when our bodies are relaxed and our spirits open to his healing.
Glorious Archangel St. Raphael, great prince of the heavenly court, illustrious for your gifts of wisdom and grace, guide of those who journey by land or sea, consoler of the afflicted, and refuge of sinners, I beg you to assist me in all my needs and in all the sufferings of this life, as once you helped the young Tobias on his travels. And because you are the 'Medicine of God,' I humbly pray you to heal the many infirmities of my soul and all the ills which afflict my body, if it be for my greater good.
I specially ask of you the favor of ______ and the grace of angelic purity, which makes me fit to be the temple of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
St. Raphael, of the glorious seven who stand before the throne of Him who lives and reigns, Angel of Health! the Lord has filled your hand with balm from heaven to soothe or cure our pains - heal or cure the victim of disease, and guide our steps when doubtful of our ways!
